It’s not surprising, since the July 2021 announcement clearly stated that there would be a BEV as well as a Range Electric Paradigm Breaker. (REPB), a new marketing term for some type of range-extender. We assumed that the description of the vehicle – “All driving characteristics of BEVs, with real-world ranges and flexibility” – was a series hybrid. It will likely be an onboard generator that will support the battery’s range to increase towing, particularly when it is towing. It would make sense, particularly since Ram will be a bit behind Ford and GM with all-electric pickups and it would be nice to offer something different.

Powertrain

The battery should be capable of storing 159 to 200+ kWh of lithium-ion batteries, which will give it a range of 800 km (500 miles). The manufacturer envisaged an EDM 3 electric drive unit (150-325 kW) for the platform. Two of these units, one in the front and one at the rear, would produce a system output between 500-600kW and all-wheel drive.

Two other targets were also announced by the brand:

  • By 2025, will be able to deliver fully electrified solutions for the majority of its segments
  • A complete portfolio of electrified solutions in all its segments by 2030

Stellantis is currently working to secure a battery supply chain for Ram and other brands. The group also announced a joint venture for a battery gigafactory with LG Chem’s LG Energy Solution (40% GWh) or Samsung SDI (23% GWh, with the option of 40% GWh).
