2023 Toyota Sequoia All-New Full-Size Three-Row SUV

2023 Toyota Sequoia – The Toyota Sequoia is an excellent example of how far automotive technology can go in the past decade and a half. Toyota’s SUV full-size is as old and as large as the trees it was named for. The 2007 model year was the last time it was updated. The Sequoia was constructed before driver-assist technology and infotainment. A powerful V8 engine was required to generate enough power. The times have changed, and the Sequoia has finally caught up to them.

The Toyota Sequoia 2023 has been redesigned. It retains the traditional SUV attributes of off-road and strong towing but is updated to meet modern tech standards. It can also be used as a hybrid.

2023 Toyota Sequoia Redesign

Sequoia’s design looks the same as that of the Toyota Tundra pickup trucks. The updated Tundra version will debut for the 2022 model year. Toyota claims Sequoia’s body-on-frame construction is truck-derived. It rides on a stiffer frame, which increases ride comfort.

Exterior

Exterior styling is a reflection of the Sequoia Tundra DNA. This can be a good thing or a bad thing, depending on your personal preference. The SUV is bold and modern, making it easy to mistake it for a minivan. Toyota tried to make the 2023 Sequoia elegant and sleek, but it failed. The Sequoia remains a three-row SUV. It now features a sliding third-row. Depending on the load, this can be moved forward and backward to increase cargo space. Toyota also included an adjustable shelf in the cargo area. Its design is similar to the Tundra’s front, with a large touchscreen at its top and chunky controls to match its rugged exterior.

Interior

Sequoia now has the new Toyota Audio Multimedia infotainment system. The 2022 Tundra was the first to get it. It comes with standard features such as an 8.0-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, and a 4G LTE WiFi Hotspot that can support up to to five devices. The higher trims have a 14.0-inch touchscreen. The new infotainment system is compatible with Amazon Music, Apple Music, and cloud-based navigation. Software updates can be made over the air.

Safety

Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 bundle contains drive-assist tech such as adaptive cruise control and forward-collision warning. Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 bundle is available for the 2023 Sequoia. Standard features include blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alarm. This large SUV will be easier to park thanks to a 360-degree camera system that includes a rearview mirror and rearview mirror. Toyota has added features specifically for towing. Trailer Backup Guide allows you to back up with a trailer. Straight Path Assist is a steering input that helps keep your SUV straight and trailer straight even when you are reversed.

Engine

The Sequoia comes standard with the iForce Max hybrid engine. The powertrain includes a 3.5-liter twin-turbocharged V6 and a 10-speed auto transmission with an electric motor inside the bell housing. Toyota managed to preserve the four-wheel-drive system with low-range and mechanical four-wheel drives, making it more suitable for off-roading. Rear-wheel drive is also available on the Sequoia, but it comes at an additional cost. The 2023 Sequoia will have 437 horsepower, 583 pounds-feet torque, and 182 lb. ft more than the 2022 V8-powered model. Toyota has not yet released data on the hybrid Sequoia’s fuel economy, but it will likely be higher than its predecessor’s 14 MPG when combined with four-wheel driving. Toyota stated that the electric motor works only at low speeds, with the gasoline engine doing most of the work above 18 mph. Tundra’s adaptive suspension can also be equipped with load-leveling rear suspension. This will give you a smoother ride. TRD Pro offroad models come with their own suspension and locking rear differential. To increase their off-road capability, they also have chunkier tires. Toyota claims the new Sequoia can haul up to 9,000 pounds if properly equipped. This is an increase of the 7,400-pound towing weight.

Specs

The Sequoia has more power and a higher maximum towing capacity than Chevrolet Tahoe. However, Chevy’s infotainment system features Google Built-In features. The Nissan Armada is a capable vehicle with a wide range of tech features, but it cannot match the Toyota. Both SUVs use V8 engines (Chevy has a six-cylinder diesel), however, they cannot match the Sequoia’s 14.0-inch touchscreen. Ford Expedition’s twin-turbo V6 engine is 300 pounds less powerful than Toyota’s hybrid system, but it still has superior towing capabilities. BlueCruise’s hands-free driver assistance technology will be added to the Expedition by Ford later in the year.
