Automotive News Europe reported on 26 March 2022 that it had learned it was likely that the Lancia model will be a “sibling”, codenamed DS D74 from the electric DS 7 Crossback. The report states that Lancia L74 is the model’s name internally. As per the article, the Italian media has referred to this electric vehicle as Lancia Aurelia. The report states that Lancia Chief Executive Officer Luca Napolitano confirmed that, even though the name is not yet decided upon, he would refer it by the name of “the Aurelia” for convenience. Lancia has announced the Aurelia as one of its new lineups in an announcement in April 2022 plan announcement.
Napolitano who came out following the strategy announcement explained the reason Aurelia was brought back. It was impossible not to take an inspiration from the history of Aurelia, he explained. According to the brand’s chief executive, Lancia didn’t choose the Aurelia name solely because he loved the idea personally.
