2023 Ford Bronco DR Redesign

Ford Bronco’s DR model is designed for off-road only. It is not road-legal. However, it is distinguished from other road-going models by a number of significant upgrades. Ford’s Coyote 5.0-liter naturally aspirated V8 has been fitted to the DR. The carmaker claims that this engine will produce more than 400 horsepower. Multimatic also upgraded the Bronco’s high-performance Off-Road stability suspension system and added Positional Selective DSSV Dampers. These dampers have 80 mm bodies and finned fluid cooling canals. Multimatic also created new billet aluminum lower control arms with a safety cage. Ford claims it will target 55.1 percent more front suspension travel on the Bronco DRA over a road-legal Bronco Badlands and 56.8% more rear suspension travel.

The off-roader has a 47-degree approach angle, a 37-degree departure angle, and a 33-degree breakover angle. The 17-inch Beadlock wheels have been wrapped in 37-inch BFGoodrich MudTerrain T/A KM3 all-season tires. These tires are designed to offer excellent traction on rocks and slick surfaces, but can also be used for aired-down driving. A 10R80 transmission is coupled to the Coyote V8 and a Ford F-150 transfer case. The power is transmitted electronically through locking rear and front differentials, with 4.70:1 final drives ratios. Although the brakes on the road car are still in use, the Bronco-DR has upgraded pads. Baja-competitors bodies feature resin transfer molded fiberglass panels. A tubular-metal front bumper is included as well as a single-piece grille. The air conditioning system has also been removed. The Bronco-DR has a racing livery as well as large air intakes.

Ford chief product platform officer and operations officer Hau Thai Tang stated that Bronco DR was the ultimate off-road racing SUV. It is designed to allow enthusiasts to take control of a desert racing vehicle. Multimatic and Ford Performance have continued the Bronco desert race legacy, which dates back to Rod Hall’s 1969 win in the Baja 1000 in a stock Bronco.
