The Audi Grandsphere concept was an outstanding design. This is the latest of three ‘Sphere’ show cars that showcase the future design direction for the automaker. Audi strongly believes that the A8 will be an all-electric vehicle. We have drawn a picture of the final product version with this in mind. Although the current A8 may not be as striking as rivals such as BMW and Mercedes-Benz’s, it is still comparable to their more refined counterparts. Our design study incorporates elements of the Grandsphere concept into bold, practical packaging.

Audi’s single-frame grille has been completely reinvented with chrome highlights that point to the wheels. The R8 supercar’s slim hood and headlamps hint at its R8-inspired design. The sleek, simple aesthetic is enhanced by the lower doors. The Grandsphere’s boattail Grandsphere has a more striking rear, but the fastback rear features OLED tail lights as well as a floating roofline with sculpted back buttresses. At 211 in. 5 350mm in length, 79 inches wide (2.050 mm), and 126 inches in wheelbase. The Grandsphere Concept is 3,190mm in length. This is more than an A8 with a long wheelbase.
Interior
Audi’s Grandsphere concept is an excellent example of its interiors. The show car showcased technological prowess including gesture-based controls as well as projected displays. Ingolstadt promised that future models would have tactile controls to allow for tactile experiences. Audi claimed that the concept’s steering wheel and pedals retract into the bulkhead in driverless mode. This is not an option they have in mind.
The next A8 will feature a refined version of the etron GT’s cabin. It will have more occupant space, more luxury, and use more sustainable materials. Expect features such as an augmented reality heads-up display, digital service, and dynamic ambient lighting. The final model cycle of the e-Tron could include Levels 3 and 4, which are autonomous, self-driving systems that provide ultimate relaxation.
Engine
Based on Volkswagen Group’s Premium Platform Electric architecture, (PPE), the A8 etron was developed. It shares its modular foundations with the upcoming Porsche Macan EV and the Audi A6 etron. The 800-volt system runs on a 120 kWh battery pack, which gives it an approximate range of approximately 750 km (466 mi) between charges. DC fast charging of up to 270kW can provide additional 186 miles (390km) in just 10 minutes. It takes only 25 minutes to charge 5 to 80 percent.
The A8 Etron will continue Audi’s Quattro all-wheel-drive philosophy. To provide the best torque-vectoring grip, both the front and rear axles will now be powered by electric motors. Grandsphere’s total output of 530 kW (710 HP / 710PS) is combined with 960 Nm (708 lb-ft) to provide a 0-100 km/h (0-60 MPH) time of less than 4 seconds. This configuration will likely be reserved for the S8 Etron with a powerful engine. However, lower-powered versions of this engine are available.
Rivals
Audi’s flagship EV will compete against the Mercedes-Benz EQS, Tesla Model S, and Tesla Model S. The Lucid Air is BMW’s upcoming i7. There will be many options available, including the possibility of a Maybach-rivalling flagship sporting the Horch name.
