2024 Mazda CX-60 Plug-in Hybrid SUV – Mazda’s first vehicle built on the new platform has now been made available. The CX-60 plug-in-hybrid SUV is not available in the United States. However, it will likely provide a preview for the CX-70 which will be arriving soon.

Engine
As its name implies, the CX-60 is larger than the CX-50 and offers more luxury. The CX-60 features Mazda’s new architecture which has a longitudinal engine layout. Standard models come with a plug-in-hybrid powertrain that combines a 2.5-liter gasoline engine and a 134-horsepower electric motor. Mazda claims the system can produce 323 horsepower, 369 pounds-feet of torque and 369 lb. The 17.8-kWh lithium-ion battery pack provides a 39-mile range. The standard features include an 8-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.

Specs
The styling of the CX-60 may look awkward from certain angles, but it is more like a larger CX-5 with more chrome. Although the CX-60 will look similar, the CX-70 will be larger and more athletic. But even on the CX-60, the rear-wheel-drive-esque proportions are clear, as it has a long hood and a dash-to-axle ratio that ensure it won’t be mistaken for a more mainstream crossover with a a transversely mounted engine and a front-wheel-drive-based platform.

Interior
The Mazda interiors were already excellent. The CX-60’s interior is exceptional thanks to the exquisite materials used for the dashboard, seats, and trim, which include Nappa leather, and wood trim. Both the CX-60, and CX-70 have two-row seats. The CX-90 will be available later. The CX-90 will have three rows, and it will replace the CX-9.

The plug-in hybrid configuration of the CX-60 will launch in Europe. The platform will eventually be able to support an inline six-cylinder engine with a 48-volt hybrid. Mazda has given some details about future powertrains but we will need to wait until the CX-70 launches to learn more about these engines’ U.S. specifications. This plug-in-hybrid option will be available in the CX-70.
