Wilco Blok’s test-mule sightings are strong evidence that the Range Rover Sport will once more take over the role as Range Rover’s close sibling. They have kept the original design cues, proportions. While progress will be slow, loyal customers still desire the next generation of models to reflect their values.
Spy media was used to spot the front end of the next-gen Range Rover Sport. The curvy shape of the headlamp does not match the new Range Rover design language. The disguise is meant to protect the Range Rover Sport’s final design, but the finish is too real to call these provisional headlamps. The radiator grille’s frame and inserts are identical to the larger model. The Range Rover Sport test mule was evident by the visible overhangs at the sides. We are likely looking at the SVR model from the quad tailpipes in the rear. The Sport model could have strong, tapering D-pillars. This design element could remind you of the Range Rover SV Coupe. However, it was not mass-produced.
Interior
JLR could make significant changes to the interior, but they may keep some of the classic elements like the four-spoke steering, chunky dashboard, vertical AC vents, and vertical AC vents. Auto Express reader Peter Siu noticed that one prototype had a large central display. This could be the 2022 Range Rover Pivi Pro infotainment system that uses a 13.1-inch unit.

Safety
JLR is testing the 2023 Range Rover Sport with a mysterious circular object attached to the roof. Autoevolution suggests that this object is most likely a LiDAR. This is most likely a Bosch-made new-generation LiDAR. It is smaller and is made by the Bosch engineering company. Bosch claims the first long-range LiDAR sensor for autonomous driving functions at SAE Level 3, 4, 5, 5, and 5. It can work in both short and long distances. It is suitable for driving both on roads and in urban areas. The all-new Range Rover Sport won’t have a LiDAR as it isn’t yet available.
Platform and powertrains
The RR Sport will be supported by the new MLA platform (Modular longitudinal architecture). A Range Rover EV is expected to launch in 2024, as the MLA supports full electric power. A Range Rover Sports EV is expected to follow a few more years. For the 2022 Range Rover, there are many electrified powertrains. These powertrains could be inherited by the 2023 Range Rover Sport. A variety of three-liter six-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines are available, with either mild-hybrid electrification or plug-in hybrid options.
The plug-in hybrid models may be equipped with a 31.8 kWh Lithium-Ion battery pack, just like the flagship model. This gives you an electric range of 100 km (62 miles). The new RR Sport will feature a 3.0-liter Ingenium straight-6 gasoline motor and a 105 kW electric motor. Autocar reports that the SVR version, powered by the BMW Group’s S63, 4.4-liter V8 motor, will be powered by the BMW Group-developed S63 engine. The engine supports plug-in hybrid technology, as demonstrated by the German automaker with the BMW XM Concept 2021. Range Rover Sport SVR owners might be able to buy it as a plug-in hybrid vehicle.
Range Rover Sport Electric
Auto Express reports that Range Rover Sports EV should borrow technology from the BMW i7. JLR and BMW Group worked together to develop new-generation Electric Drive Units in June 2019. An EDU is an EV’s combination of a motor and transmission housed in one housing. The first company to commercialize shared EV technology was the BMW Group. The fifth-generation eDrive, also known as “Gen 5 drive”, was introduced by the BMW iX3 in 2020. The same technology was adopted by the BMW iX (and BMW i4) in 2021. The sixth-generation drive will ride on the BMW Neue Klasse platform. It is expected to make its debut in the next generation of EVs in 2025. JLR anticipates that the Range Rover EV will be available for purchase by 2024. The Range Rover Sports EV is also expected to follow shortly after. They will settle for the current technology of the fifth generation, with minor improvements.
