What’s New for 2022?
Toyota gives the Tundra the much-needed, comprehensive design overhaul following the previous generation that has remained largely the same since its debut in 2007. Although it was refreshed for the 2014 model year the Tundra struggled to take sales from its domestic half-ton competitors such as , for instance, the Ford F-150, the Ram 1500 and it’s Chevy Silverado 1500 in addition to the GMC Sierra 1500. The updated Tundra has yet to outsell any of those alternatives, but its myriad improvements will make it far more competitive and appealing once it hits the market this winter.
Performance
In the past, the Tundra was available only with the naturally-aspirated V-8 engine. For the year of the new model it’s the Tundra features a V-6 and it’s much more powerful than the old engine however it’s got two less engine cylinders. A 10-speed automated transmission replaces the earlier six-speed on all models.
A regular 3.5-litre twin-turbo V-6 produces 389 hp and 479 pounds of torque (compare it to the 2021 Tundra’s 381-hp, 401 Lb-ft V-8). For those who are looking for more power, they can combine this V-6 engine to an electric motor. With this option of a hybrid setup the output increases from 437 to 583 lb-ft of torque. These hybrid systems feature serious technological advancements.
Engines
