2022 Toyota Tundra Models

2022 Toyota Tundra Models – The arrival of a new half-ton pickup is cause for celebration in the forums, especially when the pickup in question replaces a car that has been produced with only minor changes for the better half of 15 years. When the same model has a selection of new engines, our curiosity is sparked into the high gears.

What’s New for 2022?

Toyota provides the Tundra an urgent, complete update after the previous generation has remained largely the same since its launch in 2007. While it was updated in 2014 for the model year, it struggled to steal sales from rivals in the half-ton segment such as those of the Ford F-150, the Ram 1500 as well as its Chevy Silverado 1500, in addition to the GMC Sierra 1500. The updated Tundra still isn’t expected to outsell these rivals, but its myriad improvements will make it more attractive and competitive when it arrives at dealerships in the winter.

Performance

Previously, the Tundra was sold exclusively with the naturally aspirated V-8 engine. With the arrival of the new model year Tundra, the Tundra comes with a V-6 and it’s more powerful than its predecessor engine even though it has two less engines. A 10-speed automatic transmission replaces the earlier six-speed on all models.

A regular 3.5-litre twin-turbo V-6 produces 389 horsepower and 479 pounds of torque (compare that with the 2021 Tundra’s 381-hpand 401 pounds of torque V-8). Buyers looking to increase their power can pair an V-6 engine with an electric motor. With this option of a hybrid setup output boosts to 437 horsepower and 583 pounds of torque. These hybrid systems offer serious technological advancements.

Engines

The Tundra ditches the previous models’ choice of normally aspirated V6 or V8 for the choice dual twin-turbo 3.5L V6s, with one being powered electrically and the other by the hybrid system. The base V6 is able to produce 389 horsepower as well as 479 pounds of torque. Both are an improvement against the 5.7L V8 that powered the 2021 Tundra. It produced 381 horsepower as well as 400 pound-feet of torque. The addition of a hybrid’s electric motor boosts the 2022 Tundra’s horsepower by 437 horsepower as well as 583 pounds-feet of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission is the standard. It replaces a six-speed automated that’s in the 21 model.

Truck makers are known to pound their chests by presenting the highest payload and towing numbers even in the half-ton class. This is why Toyota was all too eager to tell us its new Tundra can carry 12,000 pounds of towing when it is equipped by the V6 hybrid and the correct towing options. The figure is more than 20 percent higher than the previous Tundra, by the way. Figures for this smaller engine aren’t available at this time.

As with payloads, a half-ton vehicle’s engine and body structure affect its towing capacity. To help, we’ll choose the biggest hybrid powertrain four-door available at Ford and Ram for comparison with Toyota’s own iForce MAX. In this regard, you should look for the maximum weight of 12,700 pounds; in Ford at 11,560 lbs in Ram.
