What’s New for 2022?
Toyota gives the Tundra an urgent, complete redesign after the previous generation was largely unchanged since its launch in 2007. While it was updated to the 2014 model year however, it was unable to take sales from domestic half-ton rivals such as those of the Ford F-150, the Ram 1500 as well as its Chevy Silverado 1500, as well as the GMC Sierra 1500. Engines
The Tundra is a departure from the previous models’ preference for a naturally in-line V6s and V8s to make way for the use of two twin-turbo 3.5L V6s. One of them is electronically augmented with an electronic hybrid system. The base V6 puts out 389 horsepower along with 479 pound-feet of torque. Both are improved against the 5.7L V8 that powered the 2021 Tundra. It produced 381 horsepower as well as 401 pound-feet of torque. Adding a hybrid’s electric motor makes the 2022 Tundra’s horsepower in the range of 437 horsepower or 583 pounds-feet of torque. An automatic transmission with 10 speeds is standard. It replaces a 6-speed automatic used in the ’21 model.
Truck makers are known to pound their chests with the best payload and towing figures even in this half-ton range.
